Welcome CTE Program Mission...

The mission of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program in Texas, is based on the understanding that a rigorous academic foundation contributes to success in school and life, that all students are entitled to equal educational opportunities, and that CTE programs complement and enhance academic preparation by enabling students to apply academic principles and technical skills essential for career success.

Our mission reinforces the mission of Nimitz High School. Every student is given the necessary knowledge and skills in Career and Technical Education(CTE). Our program will prepare students to be productive assets in today's society.

technology_CMAT.jpg The Computer Multimedia Animation Technology (CMAT) course is a course recommended for students in Grades 10-12. The recommended prerequisite for this course is a technology applications credit.

The CMAT student lessons are project based. Students will use several multimedia and animation software applications installed on the classroom desktop computers and their laptop computers to design and develop Computer, Multimedia, Animation, and Technology projects. These projects will cross reference several core academic disciplines: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English. The Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) for each project lesson are addressed.

Each project lesson will address modifications, Blooms Taxonomy, rubrics, timeframe estimates, and reflections. Project lessons are rated as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced and are "learner-centered".

technology_EP.jpgThe Engineering Principles (EP) course is a course recommended for students in Grades 9-12.

The EP student lessons are project based. Students are introduced to what Engineers do and practice some of the basic skills and principles they work with on a daily basic. Students will explore several topics: The Infinity Project, Engineering Disciplines, participate in the BEST Dallas Robotics Competition, "The Cube Challenge", Engineering Graphics, Reverse Engineering and Product Redesign, Robotics, Structures, Energy, and Invention & Innovation. Students will read engineering books and will give presentations.

Students will use virtual software programs, OpenOffice.org applications (Writer, Impress, Draw) and Internet Explorer. We will also use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). These projects and units will cross reference several core academic disciplines: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English.

Project lessons are rated as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced and are "learner-centered".

kuder.jpgThe CMAT & EP students will also explore career and college opportunities using the Kuder Career Planning System, create Service Learning Technology Capstone Project, create Media Fair projects, participate in Career Success Days with classroom guest speakers, and attend either an engineering or technology field trip.

Each student is required to have a district assigned laptop. The CMAT & EP courses prepare our students to be productive assets in today's society.
